For businesses and holiday-makers across our region, Southampton Airport offers vital transport links to the rest of the UK and western Europe. However, following the collapse of Flybe – which operated 80% of all our flights – the viability of our airport is at very real risk.
Our runway length is no longer suitable for modern airline fleets, so if we are to survive and thrive as a regional airport, it is critical to extend our runway. We have submitted a planning application to Eastleigh Borough Council for a runway extension of just 164m within our existing boundaries. This short extension will make us economically viable for a wider range of airlines – guaranteeing the survival of your local airport and safeguarding regional connectivity.
