The Southampton Airport Spitfire Wellbeing Fund first grants in early 2025
The Southampton Airport Spitfire Wellbeing Fund is now open for 2026, following a successful 2025 programme that saw over £24,000 awarded to local organisations dedicated to improving physical activity, mental wellbeing, and access to green spaces across our region.
Launched in 2024 with a £100,000 commitment, the fund continues to champion projects that make a real difference to people’s lives. Managed by an independent board with representatives from Eastleigh, Southampton, Winchester, and Hampshire County Councils, the fund remains a vital resource for community wellbeing.
In 2025, grants were awarded to a range of inspiring organisations, including:
- Highbridge Community Farm, Eastleigh – £3,349.16 for an irrigation system upgrade, helping the farm flourish and engage the community.
- Twyford Cricket Club, near Winchester – £5,000 to replace cricket nets and improve facilities for all ages.
- One Community Eastleigh – £1,000 for the Young Carers Wellbeing Project, supporting those who care for others.
- No Limits (South), Southampton – £4,974 for a sensory garden, creating a calming outdoor space for young people.
- Eastleigh Rugby Football Club – £5,000 for new equipment to encourage participation and growth in the sport.
These awards build on earlier grants to organisations such as Momentum in Fitness, Youth Options, North Stoneham Community Group, and the Itchen Navigation Preservation Trust.
James Alderson, Head of Terminal and Security at Southampton Airport, said: “We’re proud to have supported so many inspiring projects that bring people together and improve lives. The Spitfire Wellbeing Fund is all about creating healthier, happier communities, and 2025 was a fantastic example of that.”
Eastleigh Borough Council Cabinet Member, Councillor Tonia Craig, who chairs the Spitfire Wellbeing Fund, said: “It’s great to see such a diverse range of amazing local groups and organisations benefit from the Spitfire Wellbeing Fund over 2025.
“They all carry out such excellent work - that doesn’t always receive the recognition it deserves - to enhance health and wellbeing and improve people’s lives across Eastleigh Borough. The fund can make a real difference, so we hope to see many more applications in 2026.”
