The safety and security of our people and passengers is the cornerstone of everything we do at Southampton Airport.
While the main interaction between you as a passenger and our security people occurs in our search areas, a huge operation also takes place behind the scenes and across the entire airport campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
At Southampton Airport we believe security is everyone’s responsibility, from the hundreds of staff at the dozens of companies operating across our terminal and wider campus to the hundreds of thousands of passengers we welcome each year.
We have a strong security culture driven by our security staff and key partners such as Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary to make every passenger journey a memorable and safe one.
All day every day, our security teams are out and about in the terminal and local road network. You will also see them on patrol of our airfield, wider campus and around the airport perimeter fencing.
Behind the scenes, when you drop your cases off at check-in, our highly skilled people use the latest technology to screen all luggage passing through the airport.
More than 2,000 people are employed across the wider airport and each of them are trained to be our eyes and ears and to report any issues direct to our on-site 24-hour control centre, which has recently been upgraded with state-of-the-art CCTV management system. This is particularly the case when operating our industry-leading Campus Watch programme tackling disruptive behaviour.
Through our ‘See It, Say It, Stop It’ approach, everyone from our colleagues who clean the terminal to the staff in charge of boarding an aircraft has a role to play in ensuring our zero-tolerance approach.
So, if you notice anything of concern, please play your part in our security culture and make sure to let a member of the Southampton Airport team aware so we can act.
