Southampton Airport Runway Run returns after overwhelming demand

Southampton Airport Runway Run returns after overwhelming demand

Southampton Airport and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are bringing back the popular Runway Run for 2026.

On Sunday 19 July 2026, runners will once again be able to take part in the 5K with a difference, taking place along the runway of the Central South airport.

There are 1,500 places available. Those interested in taking part in this incredible event are urged to secure their place to avoid disappointment, with last year’s event selling out within weeks.

Participants will be able to catch the sunrise during the warm-up, before hitting the smooth, straight tarmac for a 05:30am start time – perfect for those chasing a new personal best. Each finisher will receive a bespoke Runway Run medal.

Maurice Boyle, Operations Director at Southampton Airport, said:
“The Runway Run has quickly become a highlight for our airport and our community, and we’re delighted to be opening the tarmac once again for 2026. There’s something truly memorable about seeing people come together at dawn for such an uplifting cause. Our partnership with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance continues to grow, and this event is a brilliant way to support the vital service they provide across the region. We can’t wait to welcome this year’s runners for another unforgettable morning on the runway.”

Keith Wilson, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Director of Income and Engagement, said: “This gem of an event is always immensely popular – and for good reason. Whether you’re an experienced runner, thirsty for adventure, or you just love an early start, I urge you to grab your tickets as soon as possible. Thank you to our partners at Southampton Airport Runway for helping us stage what is sure to be a spectacular event.”

The Southampton Airport Runway Run raised more than £80,000 back in 2025 – enough to fund up to 20 life-saving missions.

Proceeds from this year’s event will be going towards the charity’s ‘Operation Airbase’ appeal, to help with the relocation of its airbase and headquarters. The move will improve response times to patients across the region. The charity has so far raised £3 million of its £3.6 million target to help convert and equip its new home into a purpose-built airbase.

Entry is £30 per person. Participants must be at least 14 years old.

Tickets are on sale from Monday 30 March: register.enthuse.com/ps/event/RunwayRun2026
