Southampton Airport Security Screening
At Southampton Airport, your safety, comfort and convenience are our top priorities. We understand that airport security procedures can sometimes be daunting, and we're committed to making your journey through our airport as smooth and reassuring as possible.
Introduction of Advanced EDS X-Ray Technology
We're proud to introduce our new Explosive Detection System (EDS) X-Ray scanners, featuring state-of-the-art Computed Tomography (CT) technology. These next-generation scanners produce high-resolution 3D images of your cabin baggage, improving our ability to detect threats while streamlining the screening process.
What This Means for Passengers
Our new CT security scanners offer several key benefits for travellers:
- Keep electronics in your bag: You no longer need to remove laptops, tablets, and other large electronic items from your hand luggage.
- Simplified liquid rules: You can carry an unlimited number of liquids, as long as each container is 100ml or less. These items no longer need to be placed in a separate plastic bag.
- Streamlined security checks: Our upgraded technology helps reduce wait times and improves the overall passenger experience.
What to Expect at Security
We aim to make security checks straightforward and efficient. Please be aware that procedures may vary between airports as part of national security strategies. Here’s how to prepare:
- Remove outerwear and accessories: Coats, jackets, belts, and watches should be placed in the trays provided.
- Footwear checks: You may be asked to remove your shoes if required by our security team.
- Empty your pockets: Place all items in your pockets, including keys, coins, tissues, and mobile phones into the tray before screening.
- Walk through a security scanner: All passengers will pass through a safe, non-invasive scanner that does not use ionising radiation.
