Southampton Airport wins Solent Business Award for CSR strategies

Southampton Airport has received the top recognition at the Solent Business Awards 2018 on Thursday 18 October, held by The Business Magazine. The company was praised for its waste management and community engagement initiatives, and has received the Corporate Social Responsibility Award.

On presenting the award, Lucinda Lamont, South Coast Business Manager at the Business Magazine, stated: “Our CSR winner stood out for its outstanding commitment to corporate and social responsibility. It strives for social and environmental good in the community in which it operates – and is focused on reductions in its carbon footprint, creating a sustainable supply chain, and engaging with its neighbours and local community. It sends 65% of its waste to recycling with the remaining being used to generate electricity which is then fed back into the national grid. And through the use of solar power and LED, it is at the forefront of energy reduction technology for its sector.”

Neil Garwood, Managing Director at Southampton Airport, said: “We are thrilled to have received the Corporate Social Responsibility award at this year’s Solent Business Awards. It’s testament to the efforts of our team at the airport who work hard to ensure the communities we serve can share in our success. Over the past years we’ve supported some great charities, including our recent Charity Partner, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, and our CSR strategies will continue to be a key priority for the airport.”

Held at the Ageas Bowl Hilton, the ceremony was attended by nearly 300 business people from the Solent region and was hosted by Sally Taylor, BBC South Today presenter, as well as by Alastair Stewart, ITV presenter.
