Southampton Airport wins Best Airport in Europe for customer service excellence

Southampton Airport is celebrating after winning a major international award for excellence in customer service. It was announced today (Wednesday, March 6) that the Hampshire airport has won Best Airport in Europe for customer service excellence 2018 in the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality Awards.

The prestigious honour was given in the medium sized category, for airports servicing between two and five million passengers per year.

The awards recognise those airports around the world that deliver the best customer experience in the opinion of their own passengers and represent the highest possible accolade for airport operators around the world.

The Airport Service Quality (ASQ) programme is the world’s leading airport passenger service and benchmarking programme measuring passengers’ satisfaction across 37 key performance indicators. Three quarters of the world’s 100 busiest airports are part of the ASQ programme which means that, in 2018, more than half of the world's 8.3 billion travellers passed through an ASQ airport.

Three other airports in Europe also received ASQ awards in this category: London City, Tallinn Airport in Estonia, and Zagreb in Croatia.

Southampton Airport Managing Director Neil Garwood said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award, marking Southampton Airport’s place at the very top of airports in Europe for customer excellence.

“Our passengers have given us a massive vote of confidence in the service we provide, and this is testament to the hard work of everyone at the airport.

“The future of the airport is looking extremely bright with our exciting development plans, and this accolade recognising how well we treat our passengers fundamentally supports our blueprint for growth.  Our passengers have shown they want to see us grow.

“This award is a massive boost in our ambition to become our region’s airport of choice.”

“Southampton Airport continues to be a key regional hub for families right the way across the south coast, and having visited on many occasions, including alongside the Aviation Minister Baroness Sugg, I know just how hard everybody works to make sure visitors to the airport have a great experience and absolutely congratulate everybody on this achievement.”

The award ceremony will be held in Bali this September.
