Southampton Airport looks forward to a busy Easter

Southampton Airport is gearing up for a busy Easter weekend, as it expects almost 30,000 passengers through its doors between 2nd and 6th April inclusive.

The big Easter getaway will see passengers jetting off for sunshine escapes, long weekend city breaks, end-of-season ski breaks and family get-togethers.

For serious sun seekers, popular holiday destinations such as the Algarve and the Costa del Sol are just a short flight away – and passengers can expect temperatures such as 20 in Faro and 19 degrees in Malaga.  Meanwhile, this season’s favourite ski resorts in Chambery, Geneva and Grenoble, are attracting many visitors over the Easter holidays for some end-of-season ski and snow fun - with the Swiss Alps expecting top snow over the next three days.

Other top Easter routes of choice for Southampton passengers include Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Belfast and Dublin as travellers choose to visit friends and family around the UK. Not to mention the inbound visitors and cruise ship passengers, as Southampton’s cruise port hosts seven cruise ships over the weekend.

Neil Garwood, Head of Customer Service at Southampton Airport, said: “The long Easter weekend is a great reason to take a break and it’s always a busy time of year for us – with people flying out for last-minute ski breaks, early summer sun getaways and to visit family.  We’re equally looking forward to welcoming visitors to Hampshire who are flying into Southampton to explore the area, join cruises or visit friends and relatives.”

The airport is gearing up for a busy summer, with three new destinations; flights to Antwerp begin with VLM Airlines later this month, while Milan and Corsica are being launched by Flybe next month.  Popular summer routes such as Verona, Palma and Alicante also begin again in May.
