Registration on the day will commence at 5:00am with a warm up at 5:40am, the run will begin at 6:00am and will finish by 7:00am so that the runway can be cleared ready for commercial flights of the day to begin. Runners will need to register beforehand and the entry cost is £20 with all proceeds going to the airport’s Charity of the Year, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA).
HIOWAA brings an advanced critical care team to people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight when they need it most. Available both day and night, 365 days a year, the Air Ambulance critical care team are called out many times a day to attend to road traffic collisions, sporting accidents, collapses and many other incidents. A highly skilled crew of Doctors, Paramedics and Pilots can be at the scene of an incident within minutes, ready to deliver the same level of care that you would expect from a hospital emergency department.
Dave Lees, Managing Director of Southampton Airport, said; “We are delighted to open our runway up to the public once again. This year we are hoping to get even more people involved and raise even more money with the goal of hitting £30,000. The run is an incredibly worthwhile cause and it’s well worth taking part, despite the early start!”
Ray Southam, Corporate Fundraiser at HIOWAA, said; “Last year The Runway Run raised over £18,000 for HIOWAA and we are delighted that Southampton Airport have chosen to support us again. The Runway Run is a fantastic idea and will raise much needed funds to keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives. I look forward to joining hundreds of others in this unique event!”
A range of prizes and trophies will be given out on the day for categories such as ‘Fastest Runner’ and ‘Best Dressed’.
