Romantic Proposal at Southampton Airport on Valentines Weekend

Southampton Airport’s passengers were witness to a very special occasion on Valentines weekend when Manuel Bluel proposed to his girlfriend Francine Kingma using the arrivals screens.

Manuel travels frequently through Southampton Airport and in December 2010 his flight to Frankfurt was cancelled due to snow. He was talking to a girl who was waiting at the gate for the same flight – Francine. They then queued together at the check-in desk to get new tickets for the next day.  Francine lives in Bournemouth and wasn’t sure if her train would make it in time the next day, so Manuel offered for her to use his spare room in Fawley.  Flights over the next few days were cancelled again so several days later they flew to Hannover together and drove to Frankfurt by car.

That was the start of their relationship and Manuel brought Francine back to where it all began on the pretence of a business meeting with airport staff. After an announcement over the tannoy and the words “Francine, will you marry me” being displayed on the screens, Manuel got down on one knee and proposed. And of course she said yes!
