Flights have started just in time for those who might be planning a visit to the city’s world- renowned Oktoberfest which will take place between 17th September and 3rd October.
Passengers on today’s flight were clearly thrilled to enjoy a taste of Munich before they had even left UK soil as they were played onto their flight by the Edelweiss Bavarian Showband with some rousing traditional Bavarian music. They were joined by Paul Willoughby, Flybe GM UK (South) and Dave Lees, MD of Southampton Airport, who were on hand to surprise passengers as they joined in the celebrations.
Munich is one of Europe’s leading cities when it comes to sport, culture and economics. For leisure travellers, it is widely regarded as one of the most important cities in the world when it comes to the arts, with numerous art galleries and theatres set amongst a diverse array of historic and modern architecture. Munich is also one of the words largest financial centres and famously the home of BMW, making it a key destination for business also.
Commenting on the new route, Vincent Hodder, Flybe’s Chief Revenue Officer said: “We are delighted to be offering this new daily service between Southampton and Munich. Importantly, our codeshare with airberlin further strengthens Flybe’s 'One Stop to the World' proposition, benefitting our Southampton customers who can now enjoy seamless connecting travel through airberlin’s many onward routes from Munich when booked through the airberlin website or with their local travel agent.”
Dave Lees, Managing Director at Southampton Airport, added “Services into Germany are always in high demand so it is fantastic to be able to offer this route into Munich with Flybe. Many local businesses have strong connections in Munich and it is also a key tourist destination, especially for the upcoming Oktoberfest as well as the German Christmas markets as we move into winter.’
Mr Hodder concludes: “Our new Munich service also gives our Southampton travellers the flexibility to conveniently link with and conduct important business with this key German centre of commerce and, for leisure customers, the opportunity to explore the many attractions the region has to offer. We are looking forward to welcoming all our new passengers on board.”
