The band, called The Fire Tones, will release its version of a Christmas classic on 30 November and will compete with such big names as Elton John, Lady Gaga and The Kingdom Choir to top the UK charts.
Marc is the only airport firefighter involved in this charity project, and has been approached by The Fire Tones founders after stealing the spotlight at the UK’s X Factor. He said: “It’s an honour and a privilege to be asked to get involved with such a fantastic cause for both Firefighters and Band Aid charities.
“Something that has started from just a small group of firefighters in Wales has now evolved into a national and diverse range of firefighters from all over the UK. My hope is to get us into the UK charts all the way to the top, so huge thank you to everyone for their support and let’s make it happen!”
Darren Nield, Airport Fire Service Manager, said: “We think it is brilliant that Marc is taking part in a fantastic effort for such a great cause at this special time of year. With over 40 fire service personnel involved, it is a privilege that one of our own firefighters was chosen having been spotted auditioning on the X Factor. Marc is the only representative from all the airports’ Fire and Rescue services, so it’s a great honour for Southampton Airport.”
The Fire Tones recorded the single at the recording studio in Birmingham Music College, with the session lasting 12 hours and masterminded by producer Steve Osborne and expert vocal arranger Louise Warren.
