We asked Jemma Morgan, Customer Services at Southampton Airport Direct Travel to share some behind the scenes of what it's like working for our online travel agency and her top tips for booking the perfect holiday.

What is it like working in the Southampton Airport Direct Travel customer contact centre?

Every day is different, every call is different and I love it. Within our customer contact centre, we have a reservations team who look after our customers when making their booking and our customer care team who look after everything else once a trip is booked, either online or by phone.

How long have you worked for the company and what did you do before?

I’ve worked for the company for 11 years but I have always worked in the travel industry. I first worked in reservations and then moved over to our customer care team.

What things come up on a day to day basis in customer care?

Anything from making special requests to make a customer’s journey easier through to booking car hire reservations for business travellers who require a specific car to impress a customer! In between we support customers who wish to make changes to their reservations and need general help with their travel arrangements.

Where do you go for your own holidays?

I have a young family, so we like the convenience of flying locally and although our children love flying, we are happy with a short flight! Last year we had a great two weeks in Portugal staying in Alvor which was perfect for us. In October we are going to Dubai staying at the new Ras Al Khaimah resort on an all-inclusive basis.

Where is your favourite destination from Southampton?

Ibiza. The island is beautiful and it is really contrasting, it’s not just about nightclubbing. You can be in a hillside village wandering around one minute and the next minute in a resort like Playa de’n Bossa which has a superb beach, a choice of watersports (my favourites are SUP boards) and some waterfront bars, perfect for enjoying a plate of olives and a glass of tempranillo.

What tips do you have for choosing the perfect holiday?

  • Choose where you are staying really carefully. I always consider how long it will take to walk back to our hotel or apartment after time on the beach……
  • Will you be comfortable there? When traveling with children, choose a family friendly property that you know you can relax in. Southampton Airport Direct Travel have some new family focused hotels and apartments which provide everything a family would need.
  • Half Board and All Inclusive properties allow you to budget for your trip really well. Many apartments and aparthotels offer extra room space (which is perfect for families) with the ease of being able to dine where you are staying.
  • Make it easy! Choose an airport that is easy to get to with convenient flight times.
