Squeeze in a ski holiday

Squeeze in a ski holiday

There's just enough time left of the ski season for one more break! We asked avid skier and local blogger Paris Darknell to tell us how.

Snow, après ski, log fires, hot chocolate, tranquillity. Do all these sound appealing to you? Make it happen.

With Southampton Airport offering flights to all the popular ski destinations such as France, Andorra and Austria, there really is nothing stopping you.

Having visited Les Menuires in the Alps during the festive period, I’d definitely recommend spending any pockets of spare change you have, on a last minute winter break. Fly out of Southampton Airport with FlyBe and land in Geneva Airport within 2 hours. Despite the transfer being just over 2 hours long, the views that you’ll see alone during the incline up to the French mountains, will make the journey worthwhile.

Even if you’re hesitant about skiing and it not being for you, you can stop worrying now as there are many other things to do. Bob sleighing, walking, swimming. I know what you’re thinking, swimming...what? But even with being 3000m up in the mountains, the resort still has an amazing leisure facility. The facility is equipped with a swimming pool, steam room, sauna, 2 jacuzzis and a range of various spa treatments.

However, if it is the adrenaline rush you’re looking for, then this will be your perfect escape. The resort has a range of blue, red and black runs, which from my own personal experience I know will get your hearts racing.

Also, for all you beginner skiers, you can stop worrying now. Les Menuires is central to another 2 resorts: Val Thorens and Courchevel which all have numerous numbers of green runs. These will allow you to build your confidence, and get a feel for the snow under your skis.

Still not convinced this holiday is for you? Take a really good look at the picture above.  It was taken at the top of a green slope and you still have time to take your own picture of this spectacular view. Don’t let summer arrive without paying the Alps a visit!
