1. Getting here
There’s little chance of getting lost on the way to the airport or navigating complex directions to the terminal building. Just pull off the M3 or M27, follow the signs and you’ll be with us in minutes. Short-stay parking is just one minute’s walk from the terminal, and long-stay is a five-minute shuttle ride. Public transport is also a breeze – Southampton Airport Parkway station is just 99 steps from the terminal, with fast trains whizzing between London Waterloo and Bournemouth from dawn until late. Regular local buses stop at the terminal, serving Southampton city and nearby towns.
2. Getting around
Once you’re here, don’t worry about finding change for a trolley – they’re all free and we have plenty of them everywhere. Most of our terminal is on one level, so if you’re a wheelchair user, pushing a buggy, or just travelling with wheeled bags, you’ll just need to use the lift to get to the departure lounge. We’re ready to help if you have special assistance or mobility needs.
3. Checking in
You know these endless queues, snaking for miles around the terminal, with browbeaten families looking like they’d be ready to kill for a chair? Well, we don’t have these. Usually, we just ask you to show up 90 minutes before an international flight and an hour ahead for domestic travel. Our check-in process, according to Which?, is the best in the UK, with customers having to wait an average of just 10 minutes to go through. You can even check yourself in at our self-service points, and use our fast bag drops to unburden yourself of your luggage even quicker.
4. While you wait
Once through passport control and security, you’ll find yourself in a little oasis of calm. The chances are you won’t have long to wait in the departure lounge, but if you’re early or for some reason your flight is delayed, you can sit in comfort and enjoy up to four hours’ free wifi. Hungry? Our food and drink outlets can fix you a full English breakfast, a pre-flight tipple and everything in-between. Now’s also your chance to pick up some duty free gifts, stock up on last-minute travel cash, or treat yourself to some holiday blockbusters to read – all within a few steps and in sight of your plane.
5. The upgrades
Finally, if you’re celebrating a special occasion, or know you’re going to be running late and need everything to go extra-smoothly, just a few pounds will ease your way through the entire airport experience. Priority parking is just £12.50 a day extra, is mere metres from the terminal and has wider bays for easy unloading. An added bonus is your automatic upgrade to fast-track security access, which whizzes you through in a dedicated lane. And best of all, the ultimate upgrade for a relaxing start to your journey – our priority lounge. Whether you need a quiet area to work or just catch up on some nap time before a flight, our new comfortable lounge offers fantastic value, and includes a wide range of snacks, comfortable seating, workstations, laptop and mobile charge points, and unlimited wifii. Lounge access can be pre-booked at a discount or you can just turn up and pay.
That’s our top five, but what’s your favourite part of the Southampton Airport experience? Please get in touch, we’d love to hear your feedback.
