Special assistance: in the terminal
Most of Southampton Airport is on one level, making it easy to navigate for wheelchair users and customers with reduced mobility. There is also a dedicated lift for passengers to gain access to the second floor of the Departure lounge, to access the food and drink facilities.
Facilities for the hard of hearing
Payphones and credit card telephones are available in all parts of the airport and are adapted for hearing aids.
Facilities for the blind and partially sighted
Southampton Airport has an Access Partnership with Guide Dogs. Passenger services staff receive regular specialist training from Guide Dogs to help them support people with visual impairments. The airport is listed on Guide Dogs’ website as an ‘Open for Business’ partner acknowledging the airport’s efforts in making the airport more accessible for people with visual impairments.
Guide and hearing dogs are the only dogs allowed in the terminal building, except for those animals travelling on flights. All airport directional signs are black on yellow providing optimum contrast to assist all users. If you have difficulty seeing the information on the flight monitors, please advise your airline when you check in.
Toilets
Unisex accessible toilets are provided on the main concourse and within the departures lounge. Parents travelling with children are welcome to use the unisex accessible toilets.
Reserved seating
Reserved seating areas are available for special needs passengers, identified by the use of special needs pictograms, are located on the main concourse and in the departures lounge. The area provides a space for wheelchair users.
Security checks
The safety and security of our passengers is our number one priority. All passengers must pass through security control before they enter the departure lounge. Wheelchair users will inevitably activate the archway metal detector, and security personnel are obliged to hand search passengers who activate the alarms: therefore chair and passenger will be searched. You can ask to be searched in private, away from the main security control area if you prefer.
