Air quality target for 2007

Environment Category 2007 Target 2007 Target Performance
Air quality During 2007, Southampton will focus on working towards achieving the objectives of the air quality strategy 2006-2011. Target achieved

A number of the objectives in the strategy are underway, including:

  • The publication of the airport’s surface access strategy, which aims to increase the number of passengers travelling to and from the airport by public transport. We are actively working with transport operators and local councils to improve information and transport infrastructure
  • Encouraging staff to travel to and from work using alternative methods to the singularly occupied car.
  • Annual carbon dioxide reduction targets against business as usual, including tracking monthly performance at our Sustainability Board
  • Exploring new methods of reducing energy conservation by trialling new technology, such as LED lighting which uses less electricity than standard light fittings. More information
  • Reviewing car park tariffs to provide good quality car parking facilities, while also managing the use of car to and from the airport
  • New passenger buses were purchased, which meet the European Emissions Standards, and are less polluting than the vehicles they have replaced.
