Waste

Waste is a very important issue for a number of reasons, including diminishing natural resources, the reduction in landfill capacity and the environment impacts associated with traditional waste disposal activities. There are many benefits arising from recycling waste, including the reduced need for the processing of raw materials and substantially less energy is required for recycling waste matter into new products over virgin materials.

We aim to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill by increasing the level of waste that is recycled. Cabin waste forms a large part of our total waste volume. Although much of it is likely to be recyclable, it is mixed with the general (non-recyclable waste) and so cannot be recycled. There are various reasons why this happens, including the limited space on aircraft available to store or separate waste. This means that there is opportunity to work with airlines to improve the amount of cabin waste which is recycled.
