Community support timeline 2008/07
January 2008
Over £400 was raised from passenger donations in the terminal, and given to local charity, The Sophie Barringer Trust.
Southampton Airport supported holidays for young people with special needs, through the Liberty Child Charity.
February 2008
Eight Peter Symonds College students joined with students from Stansted, to re-build a primary school in India, as part of a youth development programme called the Fulcrum Challenge.
March 2008
Six students from Bitterne Park School joined teams across Southampton Airport for their work experience programme.
April 2008
Southampton Airport staff won three of seven categories at the BAA I-Volunteer Awards . The entries will result in £24,000 of donations to 25 local charities, with £5,000 prizes each going to Bitterne Park School, Sophie Barringer Trust and Cancer Research UK.
May 2008
A team of airport volunteers visited Bitterne Park Infant School to develop their school garden area. Southampton Airport helped students at College House in Winchester to develop new skills in horticulture through the development of green house facilities.

VSO Global Xchange project officially launched by the Mayors of Eastleigh and Southampton.
BAA I-Volunteer Awards were held in London. Over 35 airport staff attended.

Chris Butler, Managing Director of Southampton Airport gave a special lecture to the Royal Aeronautical Society at the Hampshire County Cricket Ground.
March 2007
18 volunteers for VSO Global Xchange arrived in Eastleigh and Southampton for three months volunteering, 9 were from the UK and 9 from the Philippines.

The BAA Communities Trust sponsored 10 runners for the London Marathon. Two Southampton Airport runners raised over £5,000 for the Alzheimers Society and Cancer Research UK.
Another two members of staff completed a fundraising skydive, raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
May 2007
The Kingfisher Barn at Itchen Valley Country Park, was officially opened by the Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Roger Smith. The barn is a conservation classroom for local school children, which was sponsored by the airport through the BAA Communities Trust.

The Eastleigh and Southampton teams competed against 12 other teams at the Hampshire Youth Games 2007, supported by Southampton Airport.

July 2007
Pilot Polly Vacher visited Southampton Airport as part of her Wings Around Britain Tour, to visit all 206 UK airfields. The aim was to raise money and awareness for disabled flying scholarships.
August 2007
A brand new charity money spinner was installed at the airport to raise funds for local charities.
The airport supported the QEII Activities Centre by providing brand new buoyancy aids and safety helmets. The centre is designed for people with special needs to enjoy practical problem solving and team building activities.

Teams of walkers from Southampton Airport took part in the 2007 ‘Walk to Cure Diabetes’. The walk aimed to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
A team from the airport developed a wildlife and allotment area, known as ‘Muddy Bottom’, for the Society of St James charity, which helps vulnerable and homeless people to maintain their independence.

October 2007
Six students from Bitterne Park School successfully completed their work experience interviews to work at Southampton Airport next year. The interviews included, CV preparation, letters of application, short-listing and competitive real-life interviews to prepare them for the world of work.
November 2007
Over 60 students from senior schools across Eastleigh participated in the 2007 Eastleigh Borough Twinning Association Language Competition, supported by Southampton Airport. Students presented to a panel of judges and answered questions whilst speaking fluently in either French, German or Spanish.

December 2007
Carols in the Concourse took place at the airport with students from 6 schools entertaining passengers. The schools from Eastleigh and Southampton included; Quilley School of Engineering, Bitterne Park School, Bitterne Park Infant School, Stoke Park Junior School, The Crescent School and Cherbourg Primary School. Year 7 student, Michele Wiltshire, from Bitterne Park School won the airport's Christmas Card Competition. Her entry was one of 700 entries throughout the school.
