Calendar years
12 months ending December (e.g January 2000 to December 2000)

Terminal passenger
This includes passengers who are changing from one aircraft to another at the specified airport (transfers) as well as those starting or ending their journey at the specified airport.

Air transport movements
Landings or take-offs by aircraft engaged in the commercial carriage of passengers, cargo or mail.

Cargo
All goods (other than airlines' stores, passenger baggage and mail) loaded or off-loaded at the specified airport. It is measured in metric tonnes (1,000 kilos).

Types of service
Air transport movements (including the passengers or cargo thereon) at BAA airports are in some cases broken down into the following sub-categories:

  • Domestic - Flights operating entirely within the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
  • International - Flights operating to points outside the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
