Southampton Airport Runway Run

The Southampton Airport Runway Run will take place on the 25th June 2017 commencing at 6am with registration opening from 5:00am
All proceeds from the run will go directly to our Charity of the Year, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Where does the run take place?
The race starts and finishes on the taxiway just outside the Airport Fire Station. You will access ‘airside’ through Gate 11 and assemble on the Hangar 1 apron.

Where can I park?
There is ample parking in the short stay multi-story car park. Please take a ticket on entry to the car park and park on the top floor. Runners will be able to collect a complimentary exit ticket, valid until 10am, allowing you to enjoy breakfast at The Globe restaurant. If you need one, make sure you collect this with your race number on the day.
Where can I get breakfast?
We are opening The Globe restaurant early, especially for our runners. Breakfast will be available here from 7am and we'll be offering 20% off for runners showing their medals. You'll find The Globe at the Arrivals end of the airport terminal.
How much does it cost to enter?
The entry fee is £20 per person which goes directly to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
How much money goes to Hampshire and Isle Wight Air Ambulance?
100% of the entry fee goes directly to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. The charity is well supported by the local community however, some race day costs will be deducted from the fee. Southampton Airport has donated the airport facilities for free and all event staff are volunteering their time and expertise.
Do I have to work at Southampton Airport to take part?
Absolutely not, we welcome anyone over the age of 12. You do not need to be affiliated to any club or organisation to take part. Children aged between 12-16 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
How long will the race take?
It'll be over in around 40 minutes but, as the airport opens at 07:30, everyone must vacate the site out of Gate 11 by 07:00. Aircraft safety is paramount and a full walking inspection by airport staff must be carried out before the airport opens.
Can I enter a team?
By all means! We encourage team entries as the camaraderie on the day adds more fun to your run. The application process is through the same site.
Can I run in fancy dress?
Yes, actually it is positively encouraged! Any entrant can run in fancy dress and we award prizes for the best outfits. Just remember, you are responsible for making sure your costume is safe to run in.
I am disabled. Can I take part?
Yes, we will accept disabled participants on a case by case basis (due to health and safety considerations). Please email us and we will discuss this with you.
Can I collect sponsorship money online?
Yes! We encourage everyone to collect sponsorship online. You can raise money through JustGiving.com and will be given the option to set up an account for donations when you register. As a participant of this event, you can fundraise for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance which is listed and is registered with JustGiving.
Are there toilets/showers/changing rooms?
There will be portable toilets available in the assembly area and toilet facilities are available in the main terminal building (accessed from landside). There are no showers or dedicated changing area so please come prepared to race. You may get ready and leave your kit in the assembly area but please be aware that Southampton Airport and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance will accept no liability for loss or damage to clothing or equipment.
Where and when is the prize giving?
Due to the need to vacate the runway before 07:00, there will be no official prize-giving ceremony.
The prizes for the fastest finishers and best fancy dress and best team will be awarded at the finish line. The prize for the highest fundraiser will be awarded after the event and winners contacted separately (fundraisers will have 2 weeks to gather & prove funds).
Will spectators be allowed airside to watch?
Unfortunately due to health and safety no spectators will be allowed to come airside. Only registered runners will be able to pass through gate 11. Please do not come with family, friends and children who are not registered to run as they will be sent away. Prams and wheeled objects are also not able to be brought airside. Safety and security is our number one priority at the airport and as such we must abide to these rules.
